LabCorp has acquired the diagnostic lab testing business of Indiana’s South Bend Medical Foundation (SBMF), expanding its clinical offerings to the surrounding area including parts of Michigan, Ohio and Illinois.

        Additionally, LabCorp and the nonprofit foundation have agreed to work together to provide pathology services to the region, including through LabCorp’s Dianon Pathology and Integrated Oncology labs.

        “This transaction will allow SBMF to focus on our core business of pathology and blood banking services,” the foundation’s president, Joyce Simpson, said in a statement.

        “I am confident that our customers and patients will benefit from the enhanced clinical laboratory services that LabCorp can offer, and I look forward to working closely with LabCorp in a new pathology partnership as SBMF expands its professional services,” Simpson said.

        Going forward, LabCorp will operate the foundation’s former clinical laboratory in South Bend as part of a larger network of patient service centers. That includes six additional former SBMF locations and four LabCorp sites opened within Walgreens stores in southwestern Michigan.
