A research group at the University of Copenhagen has shown how a rare bone cancer called osteosarcoma degrades bone tissue. And they've identified an antibody which they say guarded against the bone degradation in a mouse model for the disease, possibly pointing to a new medication that could prevent the need for amputations among the young people and children suffering from this cancer. "By treating mice with OS with the new antibody, we could block the micro processes OS cells use to degrade the bones and thereby effectively protect the bone tissue," explains Lars Engelholm.
